PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ASSISTANT STORE MANAGER

POSITION SUMMARY

This position will support Goodwill Industries of San Antonio by assisting the Store Manager achieve revenues according to budget. Provide
guidance, leadership and supervision to management team, team members, participants and volunteers. Implement policies and procedures of Goodwill’s retail operation program under the direction of the Store Manager. Ensure that all activities are performed in an ethical, responsible, safe, efficient and profitable manner. Support the organization in its mission to help change lives through the power of work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Under the direction of the store manager, oversee the operation of
Goodwill store and monitor production goals. Keep operations in proper working order to include facility and property.
Monitor and analyze the customer service provided by team members and offer feedback and coaching.

Greet customers and offer assistance with merchandise. Provide excellent customer services to ensure a pleasant shopping experience that meets
retail standards of a successful for-profit discount department store. Model and share customer service best practices and offer assistance with products and services. Resolve customer complaints and help respond to customers’ needs.

Supervise the operation of store and team member’s opening/closing/changing shifts and task delegation to team members.

Ensure training of team members and provide coaching and mentoring.

Ensure the store’s donation area is kept clean, well organized and serviced on a timely basis.

Receive donations with an efficient processing flow to avoid bottleneck
and ensure retail area is kept well stocked.

Responsible for priced and tagged goods.

Adjust floor display and layout to fit volume of each category of merchandise received utilizing scan data.

Oversee accurate closing of day transactions by counting money, preparing bank deposits, reports and registers for next business day.
Reconcile register and customer transactions according to retail
standards and good business practices.

Oversee training for all team members in donor and customer service.
Ensure team members are quick, friendly, and efficient and are presented
in a professional manner.

Adhere to, and ensure adherence to, all Loss Prevention and inventory control and compliance, risk management, and ethics policies and procedures. Safeguard donations and all Goodwill property and resources; secure from harm, theft, accidental loss, or disposal. Promptly investigate or participate in
investigations for all reported incidents.
Ensure proper use of register, cash handling methods, and execution of customer transactions according to retail business standards.
Respond to emergency calls during non-office hours.
Ensure that assigned staff, vehicles, equipment, supplies, and other resources are effectively utilized in a coordinated and efficient manner to achieve maximum return on the investment and to prevent unnecessary overtime work, unnecessary trash fees, vehicle abuse, or waste.
Order supplies well in advance and prevent waste.
Provide a safe working environment and ensure team members work safely and that unsafe conditions are immediately addressed and corrected.
Conduct safety inspections, investigate accidents, complete related reports in an accurate and timely basis, and take corrective action to prevent recurrences. Take proactive steps in preventing accidents.
Develop operational procedures related to areas of responsibility.
Conduct team member meetings, keeps team members informed of all policies, procedures, agency news, and ensure team members have the opportunity to give recommendations and feedback. Use leadership skills to create a positive team work environment.

Implement and meet annual plan and budget goals.

Assist managers in performance of supervisory and management tasks and act on manager’s behalf as needed.Regularly participate in interviewing, scheduling, planning, reporting and training.

Prepare and deliver timely performance appraisals for direct reports; coordinate with Human Resources to administer rewards and recognition, transfers, disciplinary actions, or termination in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Maintain harmonious working relations between team members.
Ensure team member complaints are promptly addressed, and follow through to resolution.
Perform various duties required for payroll, personnel changes, financial reports and work orders, etc
Attend seminars and give presentations that may require out-of-town travel.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

2 to 3 years previous retail supervisory or management experience

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

3 years of experience in a service-driven environment.

Strong leadership and negotiation skills.

Accurately follow-through on a timely basis.

Highly organized and able to adapt quickly to changing priorities.

Demonstrated ability to empower and develop a team.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent computer skills.
