Job Summary: The OSU Flight School Manager is responsible for all aspects of Part 141 flight and ground training, in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration policies and procedures and Title 14, Code of Federal Regulations. This individual will manage a multi-million dollar fleet of aircraft; supervise staff, instructors, and maintenance technicians, provide expert advice on training issues and curricula, promote the flight training program, and serve as operations and maintenance budget manager for flight school business. This manager will work directly with the Aviation and Space Program Coordinator and/or Program Liaison.

Education and Experience

Required
Field of Study: Education, Business or Aviation or related
Location: OSU/Stillwater
Degree Master's
Experience: 20+ years
Certifications, Registrations, or Licenses Private Pilot, Single-Engine Land Certificate.
Multi-Engine rating or Military Equivalent.
Certified Flight Instructor or Military Equivalent (Instrument Instructor, Single-Engine and Multi-Engine Instructor), in various types of aircraft.
Flight Examiner in various types of aircraft. Supervisor of flight operations (Chief Flight Instructor or Military Equivalent: Supervisor of Flying)
Skills, Proficiencies and Knowledge Strong skills as both leader and manager of flight operations for high performance, single and multi-engine aircraft, and management of maintenance support employees

Ability to make operational decisions about the proper use of aircraft and flight training instructional method

Proven ability to interface with socially and culturally diverse individuals in a flight training environment

Ability to communicate with students, dispatch employees, flight instructors, the chief flight instructor, the assistant chief flight instructor, the office manager, and the maintenance technicians in the appropriate language of each group

Special ability to build a flight program, with new aircraft and a new mission statement, from the ground up

Ability to explain technical information in terms understandable by the administration

Ability to promote the flight program at social engagements, showing exceptional poise and bearing when introduced to donors and those offering support to the flight program

Twenty or more years of flight experience, with at least 3000 hours of flight time

Flight experience in diverse aircraft types (at least five types)

Flight experience in single and multi-engine aircraft

Proven ability to solve complex problems in hierarchical organizations

Commercial and Instrument flight ratings

Must have ability to use Microsoft Office (or equivalent) components to present complex data

Must have experience briefing executive level managers

Must have experience creating and managing multi-million dollar budgets

Must have extensive experience in flight training, in all levels from instructor of students to managing flight operations
