POSITION TITLE:              Sr. Associate Director, Public Health Programs

REPORTS TO:                   Vice President, Health Policy

STATUS:                            Full Time Exempt

LOCATION:                       Chicago, IL

GRADE:                             9

The Associate Director of Public Health Programs is responsible for overseeing the Alzheimer’s Association’s programmatic work to advance its goal on risk reduction, including developing content. The successful applicant is also responsible for running the Summer Institute for public health and psychosocial researchers and managing funding for health services/systems research projects.

This position reports to the Vice President, Health Policy with a dotted line relationships to the Sr. Director, Quality Care and Pyschosocial Research and is based in Chicago, IL.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Serve as the lead program staffer in support of the Association’s goal on dementia risk reduction, which shall include:
    • Developing the content of consumer-focused materials and programs on dementia risk reduction;
    • Developing the content of materials for and policies/practices to be adopted by health systems;
    • Working with the Mission Engagement Division to develop products related to consumer-focused and health systems-focused materials on risk reduction;
    • Assisting the Association’s health systems directors and chapter staff in the use and implementation of risk reduction materials and products; and
    • Ensuring that all work is coordinated and consistent with the work of the Association’s CDC-funded Public Health Center of Excellence on Dementia Risk Reduction.           
  • Oversee the Association’s work on the NIH Summer Institute grant for public health and psychosocial researchers, which shall include:
    • Working with the Senior Director of Quality Care and Psychosocial Research and the Vice President of Health Policy (the Co-Principal Investigators) as well as the project Steering Committee to develop and update the Institute’s program and curriculum;
    • Compiling and developing course materials;
    • Communicating with Institute faculty, securing participation agreements by faculty members, and, if needed, recruiting new faculty members;
    • Leading participant recruitment efforts and the review/selection process, including undertaking outreach to ensure diversity in applicants and attendees; and
    • Coordinating all logistics of the week-long Institute.         
  • Manage the Association’s health services/systems research funding, which shall include:
    • Developing ideas for projects that should be funded, and making recommendations on what should be funded to the Vice President of Health Policy;
    • Overseeing the RFP, application, and selection process; and
    • Ensuring that funding recipients complete all deliverables in a timely fashion. 

 
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:   

  • Understanding of public health practice, especially on prevention              
  • Experience in designing and developing content for consumer products on a public health issue
  • Experience in identifying policies and practices that could be implemented by health systems
  • Ability to organize and manage meeting and project logistics       

 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Public Administration or similar; master’s degree in Public Health preferred
  • Minimum 4-6 years of progressive, professional public health experience
  • Previous similar work at a voluntary health organization preferred
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed for the job
