Job Description/Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President of Ancillary & Support Services, the Director of Respiratory Care and Pulmonary Function is responsible for directing and monitoring the departments in order to provide optimal services / care for infant, child and adolescent patients of UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland.

In conjunction with Administration and the Medical Director, the Director is required to:

  • Maintain financial viability through justified and efficient services, staffing and outcomes.
  • To function interdepartmentally to meet the mission and goals of the institution.
  • To facilitate and promote ongoing improvements/communications.

Position Requirements:
Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree. Master's Degree preferred.
Minimum Experience: Five years in an intensive care setting with three years in supervision/management.
License Required: Current California's RCP license or obtained upon hire.
Certification Required: Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certificate
Registration Required: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Proficiency with PC, word processing, spreadsheets and databases. Effective written and verbal skills. Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills. Previous Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) experience. Good crisis management/prioritization skills. Knowledge of regulatory requirements, including but not limited to: The Joint Commission, CDPH, and Title 22. Ability to relate with physicians, leadership and other colleagues to achieve desired goals.
Technical Knowledge: Must have demonstrated knowledge of respiratory care in a pediatric environment. Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment of changing priorities. Ability to utilize principles of management to ensure responsibilities are met effectively and efficiently which includes: planning, controlling, leading and organizing.

Lift/Push/Pull: 25 lbs, over 25# with assistance or equipment
Must be able to physically perform CPR and lift infant/toddler and medical equipment (up to 40 lbs.) independently.
This job requires the ability to hear alarms clients and/or instruction. The ability to see accurately from 20 inches to 20-ft. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential function of this position.
