The Director, Social and Family Services is responsible for oversight of the Departments of Medical Social Services, Interpreter Services, Spiritual Care and Family House. As a member of the Hospital's interdisciplinary health care team, the Director assists the hospital in creating an environment and attitude responsive to meeting patient and family needs through understanding psychological, socioeconomic, cultural, language, emotional and spiritual factors influencing health and illness.
The position works collaboratively with Leadership and Management to assure Social Services, Interpreter Services, Spiritual Care Services and Family House are staffed and effectively provided to our patients and families in accordance with the organization's mission, vision and values, regulatory requirements and hospital policy.
This position directly oversees the Manager of Interpreter Services, Lead Social Worker, Chaplain and Manager of Family House, and assures appropriate staffing of these Departments. This includes direct supervision of master's level social workers providing coverage to the Hospital 24/7. In addition, the Director provides leadership to Social Services staff and in conjunction with the Lead Social Worker and the Manager of the Center for Child Protection is responsible for 24-hour on call supervision and emergency backup.
Education: Master's Degree in Social Work from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work. Thorough knowledge of child and adult development theories and family systems theory. In depth knowledge of developmental theories and issues pertaining to the positions target population.
Minimum Experience: Minimum five years of experience in a health care setting, pediatrics preferred. Prior experience in a community based organization or social services setting. Minimum two years managerial experience.
Certification/License Required: Licensed by the Board of Behavioral Science Examiners.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Quality Built In (Toyota Management System) experience, preferred. Good prioritization skills. Strong understanding of state and federal regulatory requirements related to specialty area. Outstanding written, verbal, and listening skills required. Ability to understand organizational needs at the broad strategic level, as well as, at the individual unit level. Ability to relate with physicians, leadership and other colleagues to achieve desired goals. Strong ability to analyze quantifiable benefits of improvement activities/management decisions/strategic decisions to facilitate effective problem solving and change. Ability to facilitate positive and constructive change in challenging situations. Independent decision-making for operational areas of responsibility. Is a thought leader in the division for the continual evolution of social services/interpreter services/spiritual services practices.
Technical Knowledge: Proficiency with computer systems, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Electronic Medical Record (EPIC)
