Construction Inspections Supervisor

ABOUT THIS POSITION
The Construction Inspections Supervisor in the Design and Construction Management Division of the Street Transportation Department supervises the work of field staff engaged in technical inspections of civil construction projects within City right-of-way. Duties include overseeing the enforcement of plans, specifications, and City Ordinances related to construction activities in city right-of-way; Managing the work completed by City Contractors and Consultants; Coordinating Materials Sampling and Testing for acceptance; Supervising and managing assigned staff workload; Coordinating construction work with other City Departments and Outside Agencies. The Construction Inspections Supervisor must have experience in documenting construction work for Capital Improvement Projects and be knowledgeable of materials and methods used in construction.
This position will supervise, plan, and organize all inspection activities on construction and maintenance projects, and other special projects; train and provide technical assistance to construction inspectors; resolve construction conflict problems where possible and recommends any probable or desirable changes; review project pay estimates, final balance sheets, plan efficiencies, status reports, and other documentation prepared by inspectors.

$57,283 - $85,405 annually. Appointment can be made above the minimum depending upon qualifications.

Six (6) years of experience in field inspection work, including two (2) years of technical and skilled public works construction including traffic control, grading, paving, water lines, sewer lines, storm drains and buildings - architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical utilities (or one year at the level of Chief Construction Inspector).
Working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, evenings and being on-call may be required.
Working at heights greater than ten feet, climbing ladders and being exposed to noise, dust, heat, cold, vibration, traffic and other outside working conditions may be required.
Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid drivers' license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

Municipal experience, supervisory experience, working knowledge of Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Standard Specifications and Details, City of Phoenix Specifications and Details for Public Works Construction, and knowledge of field safety is preferred.
Experience with contract management for contractors and design consultants.
Experience with general procedures and roles of outside agencies, as well as Federal laws and regulations as they pertain to public works construction.
