The Administrative Supervisor reports directly to the Director of Nursing Administration and assists in the identification and solving of problems related to patient care and organizational issues. The Administrative Supervisor is a resource person, acting in an administrative capacity in the absence of the hospital department managers, and has the authority to make administrative decisions for the organization in the absence of department managers and hospital administration.
The Administrative Supervisor is pro-active in managing patient flow by way of encouraging clinical staff to identify patient discharges early and pursuing them with physicians. Will manage patient census by keeping patient units full before opening the overflow unit. Anticipates patient census dips and surges and plans accordingly. Remains calm and professional when dealing with difficult customer situations, has an ability to de-escalate situations and listen objectively to assist in resolving issues, and provides the highest level of customer service. Must be able to direct clinical staff in support of Code responses. Is a vital member of the team with the understanding that covering sick calls and time off requests within the department is a team responsibility.
Must have acute care hospital experience within the past three years and possess management or charge nurse experience within the past three years. Critical care experience is desired. Ability to cultivate relationships within all departments, exhibit integrity and initiative, and is poised, mature, and professional. Ability to prioritize easily and quickly. Communicates with discretion: confidently and effectively with superiors, peers, and subordinates. Moderate computer skills required.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Must be currently licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of California. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification required. ACLS certification must be obtained prior to completion of orientation and independent assignment.
