Job Description
 
Job Title: Director, Faith Formation                                                                                            Exemption Status: Exempt
 
Department/Location: Ss. Peter & Paul Parish, Tucson, AZ
 
Primary Function: Under the direction of the Pastor, the Director is responsible for developing and coordinating programs that will enhance a personal and communal relationship with Christ Jesus among all members of the Parish.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Performs as a lay ecclesial minister in the Diocese of Tucson in support of the diocese’s spiritual and pastoral mission
  • Abides by Catholic principles in the employee’s professional and private life, and governs his/her professional and private life in strict accordance with Catholic morals and principles to demonstrate complete adherence to Catholic moral strictures
  • Areas of focus will include: Children in Parish religious education, Adolescents in Life Teen or similar programs, Adults at every age level
  • Programs will include:   Educational and spiritual groups, Group and individual sacramental preparation,
  • Training and coordinating lectors, commentators and servers,
  • Recruiting and supporting volunteers to lead and assist in these educational, spiritual and liturgical programs,
  • Developing physical and digital resources for leaders and participants,
  • Using social media to reach out to potential new leaders and participants and coordinate with existing leaders and participants
  • Collaboration, Work in service of the Pastor’s goals for the Parish
  • Work effectively with priests, deacons, lay ministers and employees to enhance liturgy
  • Maintain a mutually respectful relationship with lay leaders of the various programs for faith formation
  • Honor all administrative and safe environment procedures to ensure that all required and prudent measures are taken to operate safely and within the law
  • Foster communication and works collaboratively with all diocesan pastoral services personnel
  • Develop and monitor a budget for the faith formation program
  • Perform other duties as assigned
 
Physical/Mental Requirements: Requires coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift as required in a normal office environment.
 
Required Activities: Walking; sitting; standing; stooping; reaching; talking; handling; hearing; carrying; and keyboarding.
 
Basic Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of, and a strong commitment to the mission of the Catholic Church
  • Practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church
  • Excellent communications skills, verbal and written
  • Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills
  • Habitual courtesy to fellow employees, volunteers, parishioners and the public
  • Self-starter; well organized; perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work with a sense of purpose§ Collaborative attitude, with awareness of the importance of teamwork
  • Punctual
  • Willingness to work on weekends, with days off scheduled on weekdays
  • Proficiency in computer technology to include word-processing and spreadsheets
  • Proficiency in the use of social media platforms
  • Excellent presentation skills and ability to develop educational curricula
  • Professional bearing; clean and neat personal appearance
  • Ability to successfully pass a background, criminal history, and credit history check
 
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Catholic theology/scripture from an accredited institution or equivalent experience
  • Level I diocesan ministry certification or its equivalent
  • A minimum of three years prior experience in pastoral ministry
 
Valued Skill:
  • Facility in Spanish language
