Job Description


To manage the efficient operation of all aspects of the laundry organization, concentrating on the fulfillment of customer quality needs and production operations to ensure the fullest utilization of assigned staff and trainees.


Minimum Qualifications: Training in related industrial or business field. Certification by the Association of Linen Management with a minimum of two years of experience managing professional, technical or supervisory personnel. A valid Colorado driver’s license without a history of violations is also required.

Must be able to meet the demands for production efficiency and quality, while at the same time relating with empathy, compassion, and understanding to trainees, counselors, and others. Must be able to understand the delicate balance of trainee/employee/staff relationships and responsibilities in the rehabilitation process and act to protect trainee interests and progress in maintaining that balance. Knowledge of quality systems and standards, health and safety standards and compliance, and process improvement techniques is required. 

The incumbent must be versed in all aspects of laundry, to include guiding laws and regulation to include development and bidding of jobs, time studies, relationships with business customers and their needs and expectations, and similar internal Goodwill relationships, including transportation, maintenance, payroll, personnel, public relations, and rehabilitation. 

Some travel may be required as necessary to build relationships with customers and other laundry services for education purposes. Overtime and shifts are as needed and subject to change. 


 Manage Laundry Operations 

The Laundry Production Manager is responsible for the overall production effort including production scheduling, quality control, proper inventory and accounting processes, pick-up and delivery of materials, and record maintenance required by Federal, state Laws, or Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) standards. The incumbent will initiate all requisitions for supplies required in the laundry and selection of the same, purchase linen as required and ensure its control while encouraging the testing and evaluation of new textiles to save labor and extend linen life. The Laundry Production Manager will assist with development of annual budget and capital budget for the General Manager’s approval, ensure the policies of the Board of Directors and facility management are implemented and participate in long-range planning for future growth and development. 

Overall Support and Quality Focus 

The Laundry Production Manager will create an environment that supports innovation, continuous improvement and appropriate risk taking. The incumbent will lead efforts to improve or streamline processes and adopt best practices. The incumbent will conduct customer site visits on an as needed basis. The Laundry Production Manager may also attend and participate in professional meetings and conferences when appropriate. The incumbent will implement performance standards for the department to measure effectiveness for operation planning, assign and review all work for accuracy and completeness, and make changes in procedures and work methods that ensure a smooth flow of work while meeting deadlines and maintaining a balanced workflow. The Laundry Production Manager will assure the premises are safe and secure and that all safety practices are observed. The incumbent will pay particular attention to customer comments, complaints, suggestions etc., even those of most seemingly minor nature and respond appropriately to strengthen Goodwill’s image and position with the customer.  

Staff Development 

The Laundry Production Manager must have the ability to motivate the members of the laundry team and support their development through appropriate and effective supervision and guidance. In addition, the Laundry Production Manager will be providing work direction and guidance to the production staff and supervisors and must be committed to providing timely feedback regarding the quality of task completion. The incumbent must work to create an environment of “Team Work and Trust” throughout the Laundry Services. The Laundry Production Manager will be responsible for completing performance reviews for each direct report per the performance review guidelines of the company. In addition, the Laundry Production Manager is responsible for training an assistant as second in command and provide refresher training of subordinates to include training in the skills of the job. The incumbent will also assist in the day-to-day supervision of all consumers assigned to the work place, provide crisis intervention and counseling as needed and act as a liaison for the consumer and the community as needed in the absence of the Case Manager. 

Documenting, Tracking and Reporting

The Laundry Production Manager is responsible for preparing time reports for laundry personnel, maintaining records of supplies consumed while working closely with the chemical representative to ensure proper product mix to control costs. The incumbent will prepare weekly reports required by the 

General Manager, to include production activity that includes the types and amounts of items processed in various phases of sorting, washing and production. The Laundry Production Manger will complete incident reports and maintain logs that contain pertinent information in assisting with the consumers’ goals and objectives. The incumbent will maintain customer contact records and files such that goodwill commitments are met fully and that an incumbent could assume and carry on such commitments without undue efforts. 

Relationship Management  

The Laundry Production Manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining a positive and professional relationship with all customers, vendors, outside agencies, and Goodwill Rehabilitation and Community Services staff. The incumbent will promote better understanding of Goodwill programming among community agencies and act as a liaison to community agencies. The Laundry Production Manager is responsible for managing the customer relationships with the organization, ensuring Goodwill Rehab’s objectives and needs are clearly articulated and maintaining each relationship to optimize opportunities. The Laundry Production Manager must also partner with internal customers by communicating changes in direction, implementation issues requests for assistance to achieve Rehab and Community Services’ goals.

Research and Industry Involvement 

The Laundry Production Manager will keep current on new developments in laundry methods and adapt such improvements as seen desirable to the operation of the laundry. The incumbent must be proficient and aware of the status of EEOC, OSHA and Federal, State and Local regulatory requirements as well as hospital infection control requirements. In addition, the Laundry Production Manager will communicate and network with other laundry services to keep abreast of changes in the industry.
