  • Overview

    The Credit Manager assists the Regional Credit Manager (RCM), manages all credit functions and supports indirect business activity within the branch. This position is responsible for training branch personnel on credit policy issues and underwriting negotiations. This team member has contact with other company departments, as well as automobile dealers and other finance and credit sources.

    Responsibilities

    JOB DUTIES

    • Quickly adapt and lead credit analysts through organizational change
    • Provide guidance to Credit Analyst in creating an environment for success
    • Provide timely feedback, training and coaching to Credit Analysts
    • Continually exhibit established GM Financial leadership competencies
    • Oversee development, maintenance of dealer relationships that ensure volume objectives and credit quality
    • Review credit exceptions and determine their approval or denial within credit authority established
    • Recommend decisions to RCM on approvals outside credit authority
    • Assist branch personnel with credit policy and pricing interpretations
    • Train branch personnel to restructure and negotiate credit decisions, as required
    • Offer support to branch personnel for any assistance needed in the credit decision process
    • Ensure compliance with applicable policies and procedures
    • Ensure branch office cooperation with other departments, to maximize efficiency within the company
    • Assume the duties of the RCM in his/her absence
    • Ensure that subordinates are trained in the sales process
    • Assist with the hiring, training and development of Credit team, as needed

    Qualifications

    Knowledge

    • Extensive knowledge of the credit decision process and documentation involved
    • Must know the credit laws and regulations as well as the Company's credit policies

    Skills

    • Sales skills necessary to develop and maintain productive dealer relationships
    • Must have the ability to make sound credit decisions supporting company objectives
    • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to listen and reason objectively
    • Must possess the skills necessary to train negotiating techniques
    • Effective management skills
    • Superior work ethic
    • Superior customer relations skills
    • Excellent time management skills

    Education

    • High School Diploma or equivalent required
    • Bachelor’s Degree preferred

    Experience

    • 2-4 years supervisory experience preferred
    • 3-5 years underwriting experience in the indirect retail auto finance industry and prefer experience with GM Financial preferred

    Work Conditions

    • High energy and fast paced office environment, subject to stressful situations
    • Must be available for weekend and after hours work
