VICE PRESIDENT OF FINANCE Aparium Headquarters, Chicago, IL Reports to the EVP Finance, the position is exempt THE ROLE We believe every individual should be proud of who they are, where they come from, and take pride in who we serve. We are in search of a diverse leader for the role of VP of Finance. The VP of Finance contributes to the financial strategy for Aparium Hotel Group, as well as leads the Finance teams at all Aparium Owned or Managed hotels. The ideal candidate is visionary, strategic, and has strong financial acumen. In this position, the VP of Finance will provide hands-on support to the properties through the preparation of annual budgets and monthly forecasts, as well as establish and make recommendations on major economic objectives and policies for the properties and Aparium. This position is the accounting and finance lead for the hotels and responsible for promoting and adhering to GAAP compliance and alignment with the AHLA Uniform System of Accounts. This position ensures the development and training of accounting teams and provides equitable opportunities for them to grow into their potential. It is crucial this role position themselves as the go-to person for support, coaching, and education on company accounting processes, procedures, and practices. The VP of Finance reports to the EVP of Finance, collaborates closely with their peers at Aparium headquarters, and the Aparium hotel finance teams in achieving financially sound and strategic business decisions. WHAT YOU WILL DO Role model the company's principles of People, Place and Character; and ensure direct reports are also modeling the way of our values that drive collaboration, intuition, and translocal hospitality Ensure a sense of belonging for associates by upholding the company's values and guidelines for a Respectful Workplace, Diverse, Equitable, and Inclusive environment, behaviors outlined within the Manager Code of Conduct and Work Rules outlined the Associate Handbook Role model the company's open-door policy and employee engagement practices, which makes the company a great place to work; demonstrate a positive work ethic and environment; consistently guide and monitor business ethics and good business practice, and perform other job-related duties as needed Coach and develop property-level Directors of Finance and Accounting Managers to ensure accuracy in budgeting, forecasting, and reporting; jump-in to support a hotel's accounting department in the absence of the Director of Finance by taking on hotel-level responsibilities for a short-term when needed Lead the preparation of the hotel portfolio's annual budgets and forecasts; working collaboratively with General Managers and Directors of Finance to establish and recommend improvement on procedures, policies, and control measures for hotels Oversee and be the finance lead for hotels transitioning in and out of the portfolio; assisting in the execution of all relevant tasks and ensuring all milestones are completed to ensure smooth hotel openings and transitions Lead the preparation of pre-opening budgets and ensuring systems are implemented successfully as related to finance with the assistance of the Project Finance Director in HQ and ensure successful onboarding and training of property teams in accounting disciplines Act as a liaison to hotel owners, partners, investors, and other key stakeholders to ensure compliance to Hotel Management Agreements by monitoring and adhering to compliance responsibilities Provide financial analysis as required from Aparium key stakeholders; and readily collaborate with EVP of Finance, General Managers, and Directors of Finance on hotel financial goals through reporting and advising; responsible for tracking and preparing weekly cash flow statements Guide and monitor business ethics and good business practice while administering financial reporting, such as balance sheet reviews, hotel tax compliance, management incentive approvals; and ensure compliance with legal and fiscal policies such as SOX, GAAP, and PCI in accordance with the most up-to-date accounting principles Coordinate and liaise with internal and external audits, prepare reports required by regulatory agencies; and identify and communicate process inefficiencies or operational issues and recommend appropriate solutions Be the guardian of the company's accounting and finance policies and procedures within the Associate Resource Guide (ARG) and regularly update when needed and communicate changes to the hotels WHAT YOU WILL NEED Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive accounting and finance management experience; we like to see that you have worked yourself up the ranks, so you understand the responsibilities and tasks of your team Minimum of three (3) years within in a regional capacity in overseeing multiple hotels or properties Achieved a bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or Hospitality; Master's degree preferred Background in hotel accounting and multi-property financial management and the intricacies and vernacular of hotel accounting, specifically AHLA Uniform System of Accounts Willing to work a flexible schedule as sometimes "month-end" responsibilities and tasks need extra attention to ensure accuracy HOW YOU LEAD Highly analytical in thought and recommendations; although will never act like the smartest person in the room, and continually seek out the facts; can express a point of view without being driven by an ego Engages others in general conversation tactics to build rapport quickly, and can lead and adapt communication and presentation tactics to engage an audience; displays adaptable interpersonal skills for a wide range of audiences and stakeholders Approaches fact-finding and discovery missions in a collaborative effort; values input and experiences of others that creates additional insight to uncover deeper issues that need to be addressed or removed as a barrier to implementation Passionate in driving results of their effort and others; can influence others to take direction to execute on the strategy through tactical methods, and is comfortable in prioritizing their work and that of others Comfortable in being a "general" in identifying strategic needs, y...
