The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is responsible for implementation of strategic initiatives and for daily operations of nursing clinical departments of TMCH.  The CNO works closely with the Chief Operations Officer with joint accountability for attaining corporate and department level business goals using sound clinical, business and ethical practices.  The CNO implements operational policies, objectives and initiatives to ensure patient satisfaction, quality outcomes, employee retention and business growth.


Serves as a model for established standards of behavior, including medical ethics, confidentiality, safety standards, policy and TMC values.

Manages clinical nursing operations with accountability for achieving targeted levels of revenue growth, profitability, budget and other specified short and long term financial objectives.

Creates joint plans with peer senior managers and clinical directors to understand market conditions and proactively identify opportunities for growth.

Ensures an environment of accountability to meet and exceed quality benchmarks, HCAHPS and other benchmarks as set by the organization.

Measurably improves the hospital’s performance and patient experience by analyzing data collection and successes/failures to generate on-going improvements and through encouraging innovative ideas.

Manages issues escalations including responding to patient concerns and developing improved practices based on feedback. 

Creates a culture that facilitates collaborative employee interactions, instills employee understanding and commitment to organizational goals and is in alignment with sound management practices and and applicable laws. 

Implements practices for developing talent and creating bench strength for successors.

Develops strong relationships with external key players such as state government regulators and industry experts to optimize clinical practice standards and ensure TMC compliance.

Represents TMC with various civic, educational, business and community groups to foster community relations, marketing and healthcare education.

Accountable for ensuring sound contractual commitments on behalf of TMC, including clear scope of work, appropriate risk assessment and adherence to reasonable business practices and organization standards.

Performs other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION: MSN, or Master’s in Business Administration/Hospital Administration.

EXPERIENCE: Ten years of progressive hospital management experience, with at least 3 years experience in senior manager role managing multiple clinical departments.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Current Registered Nursing license permitting work in the state of Arizona.

  • Able to build influential relationships with all key stakeholders (patients, physicians, regulators, community leaders, etc.)

  • Effective written and verbal communications even under difficult situations; “think on your feet.”

  • Integrity and adherence to standards regarding sensitive data and confidential information.
