05/01/2019 DEFINITION: Under administrative supervision, directs and supervises the Sunnyside Unified School District public relations staff while managing and administering District public relations and marketing.

Creates and disseminates internal and external communications; directs media relations for schools and District offices; designs, posts, promotes, and performs analysis of District and Department surveys; responds to media, community, and public records requests; develops academic calendar for the year; researches and prepares news releases, media inquiries, social media posts, and content for web pages.
Directs the planning and execution of District events; manages promotions and marketing campaigns for events; secures staging, sound equipment, technology, and presentation devices; participates as a member of the Superintendent’s Executive Team; creates and distribute emergency response information to parents; acts as point of contact for Incident Command Team information; builds and directs local business, City, and County government relations on behalf of the District; directs cost center business; performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledge of District and Department policies and procedures.
Knowledge of digital web design methods, techniques, and software.
Knowledge of marketing and public relations methods, principles, and practices.
Knowledge of District finance and procurement protocols.
Skill in supervising staff and delegating tasks.
Skill in addressing large groups and the public.
Skill in creating and distributing informational, marketing, and promotional materials.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in an indoor environment. Work requires frequent sitting, repetitive motion, vision to monitor, and may require some lifting.
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, or related field.
Five (5) years of experience in public relations, marketing, or related field, which includes some supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Depending on the needs of the District, some incumbents in this class must be able to demonstrate fluency in both Spanish and English as a condition of employment.
