04/26/2019 DEFINITION: The Director of Security is responsible for the district’s overall security program and assists the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services and the Director of Secondary Schools with the efficient operation of the program, including needed training and professional development. Responsible for the successful implementation and operation of staff and student security, primary liaison with satellite organizations and agencies and supervision of assigned staff.
REPORTS TO: Director of Secondary & Assistant Superintendent of Student Service
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :( Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. Demonstrate understanding of the Sunnyside District community and demographics.
Serve as the first Incident Commander on the District Emergency Response Team and follow the District Emergency Response Protocol; collaborate with other agencies on emergency preparedness for major incidents (i.e., multi-site emergencies, weather-related emergencies, etc.)
Provide updated information to the District Emergency Response Team or select Administrators as needed, especially during emergency situations.
Respond to emergency calls from sites and for security alarm calls, and assess the need for response from other agencies/departments, such as law enforcement, District Maintenance, etc.
Monitor/oversee the security equipment at all sites, including security alarms and security cameras.
Collaborate with District, law enforcement, and other agencies in the planning and delivery of professional development to various groups, in the area of safety and security
In consultation with supervisors and District Office administrators, respond to questions from sites and parents about specific security issues and/or protocols
Demonstrate knowledge of and be able to communicate effectively about protocols for emergency situations, including lock-down, shelter-in-place procedures, missing children, multi-site emergencies
Demonstrate understanding of and provide guidance about District security policies and procedures, as well as the District Handbook and Student Discipline Matrices
Supervise District and site security staff; evaluate District Security staff; schedule and arrange coverage for special events (i.e., graduation, sports and musical events) and security staff vacancies
Work with District locksmith to monitor installation of locks and maintain documentation on key assignments; maintain an ongoing log of security alarm codes
Coordinate District site visits with Safety Team to identify and respond to hazardous and unsafe conditions at the sites; provide feedback on a regular basis to District supervisors
Must be able to work flexible hours and work evenings and weekends, as needed

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledge of District policies and procedures
Knowledge of school/District culture, District demographics, and approaches to student behavior
Knowledge of functions and responsibilities of other departments in the District
Knowledge of Emergency Response Protocols and Incident Command system
Knowledge of security equipment and alarm systems
Skill in communicating with the public effectively
Skill in providing and following both oral and written instructions
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
Skill in defensive driving and safety protocols
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment. Work requires frequent sitting, walking, repetitive motion, vision to monitor and lifting up to 25 pounds.
Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field, with a minimum of five (5) years of experience working in a school District or setting related to the position
Successful service in a corresponding or related position and at least seven (7) years of successful experience related to the position.
Training in law enforcement administration or related field
Bilingual in English and Spanish
