Performs executive, administrative duties concerning various aspects of operational management in support of the Service Plus philosophy and mission of Texas Tech.

Major/Essential Functions
Reporting to the Vice President of External Relations, the Assistant Vice President (AVP) for Institutional Advancement at TTUHSC is responsible for developing and executing effective fundraising strategies that align with the vision of TTUHSC while helping meet the goals of the University and schools.  

Primary Responsibilities

  • Working with the Vice President of External Relations and President to define fundraising priorities and goals while actively engaging in development related activities.
  • Providing comprehensive leadership and oversight for all fundraising operations including  annual and major gifts, grants, stewardship and recognition.
  • Leading a motivated and diverse team focused on major gifts, stewardship, donor communications, alumni relations and grateful patients.
  • Developing and executing effective fundraising strategies to include identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship efforts reflective of a comprehensive advancement approach.
  • Facilitating the development of a robust pipeline of major gift prospects through the supervision of major gift officers.
  • Overseeing the development of prosperous portfolios and ensure major gift officers effectively manage the portfolios to assure prospects move through the donor engagement process.
  • Directing and managing all major gift fundraising, including individual fundraising efforts like planned giving in addition to corporate and foundation relations and all campaigns.
  • Carrying a limited portfolio of principal gift prospects to meet fundraising goals.
  • Outlining clear annual goals, manage solicitation activities, and oversee the timely tracking and acknowledgment of all major gift donors and prospects.
  • Mentoring development professionals in securing high-level gifts that result from meaningful donor engagement strategies.
  • Serving as a resource for the president, deans and other members of TTUHSC leadership on fundraising matters. 
  • Facilitating relationships between alumni, external stakeholders and donors with the University’s leadership, deans, faculty, staff, volunteers, and students.
  • Effectively communicate strategic initiatives from the Vice President of External Relations and the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement to fundraisers.
  • Acting as a champion for TTUHSC Institutional Advancement, establishing strong relationships with University partners across the campus and the system, sharing accomplishments, and interpreting development’s purpose and value externally.
  • Providing creative solutions to complex solicitations; provide relevant experience while remaining current with evolving trends in philanthropy.
Developing Teams
  • Creating a team environment, motivating team members and cultivating productive, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.?
  • ?Leading the TTUHSC Institutional Advancement team with the TTUHSC shared values of kindhearted, integrity, one team, visionary and beyond service.
  • Establishing clear performance goals, objectives, performance standards and metrics for assessment as part of managing front line fundraising team.
  • Serving as a resource in developing prospect strategies and offering new approaches and techniques.
  • Creating plans for professional development pathways for staff to enhance skills and support retention.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Developing and administering policies and procedures that align with industry best practices and Institutional Advancement.
  • ?Overseeing financial and budget operations of the department.
  • Contributing to the overall success of the University by performing other duties as assigned. 
  • Serving as the liaison with the TTU System IA Office, ensuring alignment of policies and operations.

Preferred Qualifications
A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in major gifts fundraising or a similar background is required. Experience in higher education is strongly preferred.  Demonstrated experience and technical knowledge in a variety of fundraising areas, especially prospect management, sponsored programs, planned giving, corporate and/or foundation relations, annual giving and grateful patient.  Proven track record in raising major gifts of more than $25,000.  The ability to provide strong and innovative leadership in developing and implementing programs.  Successful in leadership, management and talent retention.  Able to persuade and motivate others, and to earn the respect and partnership of TTUHSC and IA leadership.  Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Function effectively as a member of a team; commitment to participating in activities and assignments that will benefit other members of the team or will contribute to the accomplishment of team objectives.  Leadership experience in a multi-year comprehensive campaign in higher education strongly preferred.  A baccalaureate degree is required; a graduate degree is preferred.

Required Qualifications
