Position Description
Directs, plans, coordinates and supervises the operation and activities of a specialized unit or small department; develops and implements policies and procedures, administers the budget, organizes tasks and sets priorities. Serves as liaison with university personnel and community at large. Works under general supervision with broad latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Assumes responsibility and accountability as custodian of records for all resident files, documents, and reports, etc., relative to the activity of the Graduate Medical Education.
  • Manages the employee benefits program for residents and fellow physicians. Including facilitation of benefits orientation. Processes monthly insurance benefits for residents in GME
  • Liaises with Texas Medical Board, Educational Commission for Graduate Medical Education.
  • Working knowledge of department, organization, HR and university policies and processes. Working knowledge of relevant industry federal, state and local laws and regulations including national accrediting organizations and state and federal licensing and regulatory offices.
  • Manage processes for new incoming resident physicians.
  • Responsible for new resident and fellow orientation.
  • Responsible for all J-1 Visa and H1-B residents on the campus.
  • Verbal and written communication skills to operational and learning concepts, actively listen, persuade, advise, and counsel. Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
  • Ability to maintain workflow with changing priorities, frequent interruptions, and stressful situations while working with a positive attitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality of privileged information, and perform a wide range of duties that require tact, sensitivity, independent judgment, diplomacy, organizational skills, flexibility and discretion.

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.

  • Travel to national conferences 1-2 times a year
  • Travel between the Odessa and Midland campuses, as needed
  • Chair or represent GME in various on or off-campus committees

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related area required plus five years progressively responsible management experience. Additional education may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.
