Position Summary

The University of New Mexico is seeking a Senior Associate Athletic Director for Business Operations to be a member of the Athletics Department executive team. Under general direction, as a direct report to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics this position will direct and oversee the business and fiscal affairs as well as the strategic planning for the Athletics Department. This position requires a vast working knowledge of all NCAA and Mountain West (MW) rules and regulations.

Duties and responsibilities include:

·Manages and coordinates the business operations of the Athletics department, to include the financial planning, future requirements and the establishment and management of financial control systems.

·This position will act as the liaison for the department on all fiscal matters. Review accounting statements to ensure all transactions charged to athletics are accurate and within approved budgets.

·Manages and oversees the establishment and administration of contractual arrangements and leased properties with external vendors, concession operators, and/or suppliers.

·Participate with the executive team to develop department’s strategic plan. Assist with developing cost proposals for needed athletic resources, equipment facilities, personnel for the athletics’ department to submit to UNM’s Executive management.

·Responsible for all payroll, personnel, and general office management, including information technology oversight for the department.

·Provide management and supervision of staff, including oversight of sport programs, as assigned.

·Responsible for recommending cost and operational improvements in athletics to ensure cost effectiveness of resources and operational efficiency.

·Responsible for management of athletics department policy and procedures manual. Put appropriate monitoring in place to ensure compliance with all guidelines.

·Recommend need for operating guidelines and update policies and procedures as needed.

·Effectively work with the Fiscal Shared Service Center, coaches and unit administrators to ensure all fiscal and budgetary matters within the Athletic Department comply with NCAA, MW and UNM rules and regulations.

·Serve as Department of Athletics liaison with designated UNM departments, such as Human Resources, University Counsel, Financial Services Division, ensure effective communication and collaboration, which include serving as the liaison for both internal and external audits.

·Represents the department and director at meetings periodically with the campus administrators, coaches, staff, and other university departments.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

· Previous experience working at a Division 1 Athletic Institution.

· Previous experience in a financial leadership role, preferably in athletics.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite - Excel, Word, Outlook, Powerpoint

· Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as demonstrated ability to communicate diplomatically with employees at all levels in a collaborative manner.

· Strong Leadership skills and ability to inspire, organize and multi-task responsibilities.

· Advanced Degree in related area.

· Ability to work under pressure and meet tight reporting deadlines; attention to detail; and excellent organizational skills, required.
