Description

Character of Position:

 

Under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Dining Services and the Director of Dining Services, is responsible for overall supervision of the Donnelly’s Dining Venue with secondary supervisory responsibilities for the Garden Café and Ocotillo Dining venue as necessary, and special events. These areas will be operated within established objectives, standards, policies, and procedures. Assists in the maintenance of sound inter-departmental relations and the integration of the dining service department with the community plan of operation. Utilizes the principles of The Morrison Purpose and Guiding Principles in the execution of the job description. Manages employees the framework of Teamwork and Empowerment.

 

Know How:

 

Possesses a comprehensive knowledge of dining room service techniques, Resident relations, plate presentation, sanitation and safety, food production and handling, personnel administration, special functions and operation of a retail dining venue. It is required that the individual have a minimum of 3 years of experience supervising 10 or more associates in an upscale dining setting and possess a baccalaureate degree with a State approved major. If not already ServSafe certified, it is expected that the Donnelly’s Dining Manager become certified within one year from acceptance of this position.

 

Problem Solving:

 

Copes with most problems and confers with supervisor on unusual problems.

 

Accountabilities:

 

1. Embraces Our Purpose and Our Guiding Principles, as well as the philosophy of the community and utilizes these as the foundation for the execution of their job description.

2. Assists in providing quality food and an enjoyable dining experience for Residents, guests, and staff, eliminating food as an issue for Administration.

 

3. Directly supervises all service personnel during the meal period.

4. Supervises the administration of all special functions and insures that these functions are serviced correctly.

5. Supervises hiring, orientating, training, evaluating, and counseling of all service personnel in accordance with the personnel policies of the community. Promotes the professional growth and development of all staff.

6. Conducts ShowTime before each meal period for all service staff to insure that all departmental standards are being upheld.

7. Circulates in all dining areas, during meal periods to field resident/guest comments pertaining to service and food quality. Immediately attempts to correct problems in these areas.

8. Conducts and documents monthly or more frequent in-service sessions as necessary or by company and/or client requirements and standards.

 

9. Attends the monthly Resident Dining Committee meeting with the other members of the management team as necessary.

10. Participates in the Team Leader program on a regularly scheduled basis.

11. Participates in the development of the department’s menu collections.

12. Insures that competency in the position is maintained by participating in Morrison Community Living and outside training programs, as required.

13. Participates, as assigned, on special projects for Morrison Community Living.

14. Maintains excellent relations with the Clients and Residents, and close working relationships with dining service supervisors, employees, and other community departments.

15. Coordinates and insures that any cash controls are in place in all areas where cash is handled. Participates in the predicting, planning, monitoring and evaluation of cost programs, as assigned.

 

 

16. Coordinates and follows through with all Resident special functions and monotony breakers as required.

17. Implements programs to improve service to the Residents, guests and staff thus enhancing the desirability of the community to current and future Residents.

18. Is responsible for insuring that the dining rooms are decorated appropriately for all holidays and special events.

19. Maintains control over all table top and menu needs, communicating these needs to the Director.

20. Maintains security of all Client and Morrison Community Living property.

21. Does not divulge Morrison Community Living policies, procedures, and systems to unauthorized individuals.

22. Performs any other duties, as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

 

Must be a minimum of 18 years of age. Capable of lifting 35 pounds or more. Capable of sitting for extended periods of time, as well as standing and maneuvering independently and safely around kitchen, office, and storage areas. Capable of standing on concrete flooring for extended periods of time. Ability to see and hear, or to use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that position requirements can be fully met. Sufficient manual dexterity to operate a fire extinguisher, manipulate kitchen equipment and operate all office equipment. Must be able to assist in the evacuation of Residents.

 

Personal Requirements:

 

Ability to read, write, speak clearly and understand English. Possess good communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to use business math concepts. Ability to get along well with others, to demonstrate flexibility and patience, to work as a member of a team, and to demonstrate a high level of sensitivity and interest in people, particularly older adults. Must be of good general health and demonstrate emotional stability. Must be able to cope with the emotional and physical stress of the position.
